If you want the most reliable Frigate alerts, prioritize fixed PoE cameras. If you want active subject following, add a TrackMix PoE or another Reolink tracking camera, but understand the zone/mask tradeoffs.
For a balanced DIY system, my practical recommendation is:
- CX810 for fixed 4K color night detection.
- Duo 3 PoE where you need 180° coverage.
- TrackMix PoE only where auto tracking is genuinely useful.
- Use Frigate’s AI as the primary detection system.
- Use Reolink AI and tracking as secondary camera-side features.
Reolink PoE cameras can work very well with Frigate, especially when you design the system around stable RTSP streams, substream detection, wired networking, and realistic expectations about PTZ tracking.
